Lyudmila Zykina – QUEEN OF RUSSIAN SONG
Lyudmila Zykina is a singer who for a long time was perceived by the world as a symbol of Russia. A Moscow girl from a working-class family from an early age learned what labor is – she was a turner, a nurse, and a seamstress. Not much time has passed since the pores of a hungry military childhood, and for several generations of her compatriots Zykina became the most beloved, truly folk singer. She managed to combine the incredible popularity of the common people and the recognition of true connoisseurs of performing art. All songs performed by her became “Zykin”, regardless of who was the author. Her work has been recognized not only at home but also abroad.
From far away …
Luda was born on June 10, 1929 and before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War she studied at the school of working youth, and since 1942 she worked as a turner at the Moscow Machine-Tool Plant. The newspaper “Bolshevik Machine Tool Plant” was preserved for September 10 of the same year, in which the turner of the 2nd shop Lucy Zykina herself wrote a short note. She also worked as a nurse immediately after the war, and then as a seamstress.
Since childhood, Zykina participated in amateur activities, played the accordion and guitar, and her solo debut took place at the age of six. singer Lyudmila Zykina In the House of Pioneers she sang the romance “The White Acacia Clusters are Fragrant …”. True, by her own admission, she was not going to become a singer: “She dreamed about airplanes, really wanted to go to pilots. Even from the parachute jump. I generally grew desperate. I drove on a motorcycle, loved football, volleyball ”.
In the evenings, after working at the factory, 12-year-old Lyudmila ran to the hospital and sang for wounded soldiers, performed in the local Cheryomushki club in the post-war years, and then sang before the sessions in the Moscow cinema “Art”.
I wanted to dress beautifully, but there was no money for outfits. The father once said to his daughter: “Earn yourself.” And Lucy committed an act that she was ashamed of all her life. She secretly took money from her father until she saved up the wounded soldiers new shoes. The father later found out everything and forgave the daughter.
Choir, ice cream and Lyudmila Zykina
One day, while walking around Moscow, Luda Zykina and her friends saw an announcement about recruiting Pyatnitsky Choir. I answered the proposal of my friends: singer Lyudmila Zykina “If I do, buy me six servings of ice cream.” So, to argue, in 1946 Lyudmila Zykina passed the competition in the famous choir.
Career went up the hill. But after three and a half years, Ludmila’s closest person, his mother, died, and his voice stopped sounding. Nervous, as the doctors said. Whatever they did, the voice did not return. And then Lyudmila Zykina went to work at the First Exemplary Typography. I printed brochures, got acquainted with a new team, and the pain of losing a loved one eventually dulled … And suddenly, six months later, a voice sounded!
“Roman” with Kosygin
Her talent was applauded by the entire Soviet country, including its leadership. She met Stalin when she sang in Pyatnitsky’s choir. Sometime after the singer Lyudmila Zykina, a concert in the Kremlin, the Supreme Commander decided to take a picture with his beloved ensemble and accidentally stood next to the young soloist Zykina.
Not close friends, but was on good terms with Brezhnev and Khrushchev. For several years, she was haunted by the rumors of a “romance” with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Alexey Kosygin. Peresudy began after a politician at the banquet after one of the government concerts made a toast to the wonderful voice of Lyudmila Zykina …
In the midst of the so-called “novel” Zykina went on a business trip to Czechoslovakia. Her singer Lyudmila Zykina was greeted and served as a queen, she gave a lot of expensive gifts. “Wow, what a reception!” – Ludmila Georgievna was amazed, not realizing the real reason for such an obsequious attitude. Everything became clear at the station just before leaving for Moscow. Someone from the country’s leaders asked Zykina to say hello to Alexei Nikolayevich, and when she said that they rarely see each other, she’s a singer, not a member of the government, was surprised: “But aren’t you his wife?” After that, Zykina sold the Czechoslovak presents paid for the cottage.
Furtseva – image-maker Lyudmila Zykina
Lyudmila Georgievna was really friends with those of the powers that be, so it was with the Minister of Culture Ekaterina Furtseva. Zykina jokingly called her her “image-maker”: Furtseva scolded the singer when she began to gain weight and forbade driving foreign cars. Lyudmila Zykina loves to tell the story of how once the famous violinist Leonid Kogan drove her on his new Peugeot, and the singer had the idea to buy a foreign car. In order not to pay the fee, the permission of the Ministry of Culture was necessary. Zykina went to Furtseva. She was outraged and advised to buy a new “Volga”. As a result, when most of the colleagues in the workshop already traveled by foreign cars, Zykina continued to travel on the Volga, until she moved to Chevrolet.
